The year in review (and the money post)

This was an eventful year for me, writing wise.  Star Wars: Crosscurrent hit shelves in January and was well received, hitting the NY Times Mass Market Bestseller list at No. 10.  In June, The Erevis Cale Trilogy was released and it has sold many times the expected number of copies (assuming the beancounter I discussed this with was not lowballing sales expectations to me; thanks to all of you for helping me make that beancounter Read the rest

Deceived excerpts

For those who may be interested, SWTOR.com has posted Chapter One from my forthcoming novel, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived.

Meanwhile, Starwars.com has posted Chapter Two, and Rebelscum.com has posted Chapter Three.  Please go forth, click, and read.

The excerpts give you a feel for the three main characters — Darth Malgus, who needs no introduction; Zeerid Korr, a former soldier in Havoc Squadron who is now reduced to smuggling;  and Aryn … Read the rest

Last Call for Autographed Books

Sending out signed copies of my novels for Christmas gifts makes me feel fat and jolly.  It also gives rise to a need to sneak about in homes while the occupants sleep.   Sometimes I just eat cookies.  Sometimes I watch you while you sleep.  Sometimes I try on your clothes.   BUT IT’S NOT WEIRD.

Anyway, I just sent out a few more signed novels this morning.  So I’ll break into someone’s abode tonight.  Hey, maybe … Read the rest

Autographed books for gifts

If you’re interested in an autographed copy of one or more of my novels, perhaps to give as gifts to your friends and family who enjoy sword and sorcery stories, the process is easy and set forth right here.

The Erevis Cale Trilogy omnibus deal continues, too.

Meanwhile, I’m working, working, and working.  More news soon, I hope.… Read the rest

U-Con wrap up

Brief recap of U-Con, from this past weekend.

It was great to see Eric Boyd, who I don’t see nearly enough.  We got to chat movies, gaming, and books.  Good stuff.  And it’s always nice to hang out with Colin McComb, who designed a great game for the U-Con game design contest — Dragon Peak.  I think we all had a lot of fun playing it and he got some valuable feedback.

The panel was … Read the rest

U-Con this weekend

Remember that I’ll be appearing at U-Con this weekend, along with the esteemed Colin McComb, Steven Schend, and Eric Boyd.  The four of us are doing a panel (in the “Wolverine” room, on the 1st floor behind Amer’s)  on Saturday, from 2-3.  We’ll talk about any old thing, so bring your questions.

When we’re not at the panel, we’ll probably be wandering around the Con and/or eating/drinking somewhere in Ann Arbor.   Feel free to say … Read the rest

Ephemera selling well but…

I wanted to take a moment to post about my ebook short story collection, Ephemera.

I self-published this collection to keep available some fiction that had previously appeared in various print anthologies, most of which are now out of print.  Too, I thought it would be an excellent introduction to the tone and style of my writing.

Well, the fact of the matter is that it’s selling beyond my expectations (which were low, I … Read the rest

Ebooks and the royalty statement part II

I posted a bit about my royalty statement and the impact of ebooks on royalties last quarter.   I thought I’d revisit it this quarter.  This isn’t a deep dive of any kind, just a few data points.

First, while I can’t give exact numbers for this quarter (or any particular quarter), typical quarterly sales of my backlist amount to 6,500 to 9,000 units in the aggregate (excluding from the data: (a) all anthologies, which throw … Read the rest

Agent news – Bob Mecoy

I announced this on Twitter/Facebook yesterday, but for those who may not keep current with Kempland via those venues, I’ll also announce it here.

I’ve signed with literary agent Bob Mecoy to represent my work going forward.  In the near term, Bob will be pitching my sword and sorcery novel to  publishers.

I’ve known Bob for over a year.  He and I have conversed via email and phone many times and two things about him … Read the rest

Growing in the Force

I’ve already announced this  on Twitter and Facebook, but since some of you may have missed it, I wanted to post on the blog,  too.

I have signed with Del Rey to write a hardcover duology set in the Star Wars
Expanded Universe.  To say that I’m pleased by this would be an understatement.  It’s  really an honor (and a helluva lot of fun) to contribute in some small way to the Star Wars EU.  … Read the rest
