I’m late with this.  Been a busy couple weeks.

Anyway, continuing my monthly series of posts to bring to your attention new releases from the publishers with whom I work, I give you what’s new in July in the Realms and in the land of raging robots.

In the Forgotten Realms, we have the return of Richard Baker and his fun character Jack Ravenwild, in Prince of Ravens, which ties into the meta-series, Rise of the Underdark.  From the back matter:

After a hundred years, Jack Ravenwild—thief, sorcerer, scoundrel, and accidental hero—is released from a magical confinement, only to fall into the hands of the marquise Dresimil Chûmavh, ruler of an exiled drow clan who sees an opportunity in Jack.

Through guile and subterfuge, the wily Jack escapes the drow to discover a new world waiting in his old stomping grounds, Raven’s Bluff, a city equally abounding in fortune and danger. Unfortunately for Jack, he is best at stirring up the latter. His former archenemy the Warlord Myrkyssa Jelan is at large, and she isn’t the type to forgive and forget. And worst of all, the drow aren’t done with Jack and they mean to get him back.

Angry Robot Books continues its streak of publishing interesting titles with the well-reviewed vN: The First Machine Dynasty, by Madeline Ashby. From the back matter:

Amy Peterson is a self-replicating humanoid robot known as a VonNeumann.

For the past five years, she has been grown slowly as part of a mixed organic/synthetic family. She knows very little about her android mother’s past, so when her grandmother arrives and attacks her mother, Amy wastes no time: she eats her alive.

Now she carries her malfunctioning granny as a partition on her memory drive, and she’s learning impossible things about her clade’s history – like the fact that she alone can kill humans without failsafing.

Both of these look to be excellent reads.  I hope you’ll check them out.
