Release Day for A DISCOURSE IN STEEL

Sharing is caring!

ADiscourseInSteel-largeWell, today is the day.  The second tale of Egil and Nix, A Discourse in Steel, hits shelves.  Huzzah! Discourse is, of course, the follow up to The Hammer and the Blade (which Library Journal called, “Sword and sorcery at its rollicking best.”).

I plan to spend the morning chewing my fingernails, the afternoon wallowing in despair, the evening drunk on whiskey, and the small hours shouting my futile rage at the uncaring stars.

But I hope that you’ll spend the day visiting with the boys from Dur Follin.  Here are ten reasons you should.  And here’s the story behind the story of the book.  Still not convinced? Well then, here are some quotes from some of the glowing reviews the book has already received:

Adventures Fantastic:  “The excitement never stops. The pacing is relentless. Yet at the heart of the book is a story about friendship and loyalty and sacrifice….a fantastic book.”

The Founding Fields“Egil and Nix are back once again kicking serious ass in this sequel”

Mikel Andrews: ”This is the fantasy you’ve been craving.. If you’ve been dying for some real originality in the fantasy realm – with a scene of revenge that would make even Kick-Ass’ Hit Girl do a double-take – then Discourse in Steel is your next stop.”

Roqoo Depot: “5/5. A sword and sorcery tale at its best.”

Lightsaber Rattling:  “5/5. Dark and damaged heroes have never been so much fun.”

Silver Pen Scribe“enjoyable ride of pure fun fantasy.”

Being A Big Sandwich: “It is in the characters, particularly Egil and Nix, that Kemp shines and draws the reader in…The interplay between the two is well-done, and their friendship is the bedrock of the story.”

Kobold Press“This book has all the elements that fans of sword and sorcery should enjoy…The characters are deep and fun to get to know, the story is interesting, and the action is top shelf.”

Odd Engine: “filled with new magic and mayhem that makes it a truly enjoyable read.”

  1. I was looking forward to reading I preordered in February on my Nook and was dispointed today when it wasn’t available because the publisher pulled it from Barnes and Noble.

    • The publisher didn’t pull it. There appears to be some kind of snafu with Random House (Angry Robot’s distributor). Should be back up there, soon. Sorry about that.

  2. Pre-ordered through Amazon, and the release date is now the 2nd of July? Is there a few days gap in physical release and eBook release…am confused.

    • There was some kind of snafu with the distributor that caused a week long delay in the kindle release through Amazon. To rectify that, Angry Robot Books has made epub and Mobi for Kindle version of Discourse available through the Robot Trading Company site: http://www.robottradingcompany.com/fantasy.html

If you wanted the kindle version right now, you could cancel your Amazon order and grab it through the Trading Company. Sorry about the hassle.

  3. Y’know, rather than wallow in nervousness and misery all day today, I suggest you lose yourself in a book. I hear there’s a fabulous sequel to a really good original entry by a fantasy author by the name of Paul S. Kemp. You should buy it and read it.

  4. Well, Amazon is doing July 2nd for the green 😉 kindle version. Just to make sure you don’t drink yourself into a stupor, I did throw my pre-order onto the pile.

  5. I thought Amazon said the Kindle edition was coming Dec 31, 2013. I was about to cry 🙂 I guess I can keep my emotions in check until July 2.

    • Yeah, there was a hiccup with the ebook release. I hope it hits on the 2nd. If not, you can grab an epub or Mobi for Kindle version from the Robot Trading Company ebook store.

  6. I am breezing through it as it is such a blast, but I am really really trying to savor it so that when I finish it will be time for the release of The Godborn. Doubt it though 😉 haha.

  7. Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this to come out for a while. Going to pick it up the first chance I get!

  8. Getting ready to sit down with the new book and a hot beverage. The title alone is worth the cost of the book. Please tell me that you already have a new tale just waiting to spring forth from your trembling fingers…

    • Always. THE GODBORN (the next in the Cale saga) releases in October, and A CONVERSATION IN BLOOD, the third tale of Egil and Nix, releases next year (June or July, I think).

      Meanwhile, hope you enjoy DISCOURSE.

    • Thank you, Drew. There’s a third coming, too. More on that anon. HOpe you enjoy DISCOURSE. 🙂

  9. I picked up Discourse In Steel to read during a trip I’m taking soon. The problem is it was so good I read it in one sitting. I can’t wait for A Conversation In Blood!
